One Year Later: How Cubee Helped Beekeepers Boost Hive Survival

In October 2024, 1,400 doses of Cubee, a Reishi-based hive supplement, were sent to eight Nectar users across North America. The goal was simple: evaluate whether regular Cubee supplementation could help colonies live longer.
Cubee partnered with Nectar because it's the only platform where anonymized, digital data can be collected in a structured way.
A year later, the results are in—and they’re impressive.
What Was Measured
Each participating beekeeper tracked the survival of their hives, and in some cases, additional indicators like colony strength. To keep things fair, we only compared Cubee-treated hives with untreated hives in the same yards—removing location as a variable.
That left us with 438 Cubee-supplemented colonies and 1,395 control colonies, managed by commercial beekeepers in both the U.S. and Canada.
Nectar conducted the data analysis.
The Results: Longer-Lived Colonies
Using survival analysis—a standard way to measure longevity—Nectar found a clear, statistically significant improvement in hive survival among Cubee-treated colonies.
- 15.5% higher survival rate during the test period
- 20% longer expected lifespan
- Control colonies maxed out at 837 days, while some Cubee hives lived beyond 1,200 days
In plain terms: Cubee helped hives stay alive longer and stronger.
Why Cubee Works Everywhere
Unlike probiotics, which try to add new microbes into the hive environment, Cubee works as a prebiotic. That means it feeds and strengthens the beneficial microbes that are already there—no matter the region, temperature, or humidity.
When we compared results between U.S. and Canadian operations, we saw no meaningful difference (p = 0.436). Cubee worked just as well in both contexts.
Matching the Science
These results line up with Cubee’s four-year research program, first presented at Apimondia 2025, which showed an 18% increase in hive survival under controlled field conditions. This large-scale trial confirms that Cubee’s benefits translate directly to real-world operations.
Cubee is also exploring additional effects, including potential benefits for pesticide detoxification and honey yield.
What This Means for Beekeepers
A 15% increase in hive survival might sound small—but for a commercial operation, it’s game-changing.
Let’s take an outfit of 10,000-hives as an example:
- Typical winter losses hover between 30–40%.
- With Cubee, reducing that loss by 15% means 1,500 more colonies surviving into the next season.
- At an average replacement cost of $220–$250 per colony (for new equipment, queens, and bees), that’s $330,000–$375,000 in avoided replacement costs.
- Those surviving hives also start the season stronger—meaning more pollination contracts fulfilled and higher honey yields without additional setup time or expense.
In other words, a small investment in supplementation can translate into hundreds of thousands of dollars in savings and new revenue each year.

When to Apply Cubee
Cubee can be used anytime during the season, but two moments deliver the best results:
- Spring supplementation – to strengthen colonies ahead of peak nectar flow
